Bas was (re)born during a profound Vipassana experience in Vietnam. This spiritual experience characterizes his artistic work. Since then he has penetrated deeper and deeper into the inner structure of the universe with his works. To do this, Bas uses naive playfulness as a weapon and thus creates dazzling visual cocktails that are pervaded by energetic currents and bright colors. Image worlds that seem to float between surrealism and abstraction. Visually intense, ambiguous and colourful. Depictions of mystical creatures with spiritual powers in dreamy landscapes are just as present as abstract representations of universal principles. The profound and complex works subtly guide the attentive viewer into a world of spirituality and mysticism.
My paintings combine meditation and research. They tell of the most important and essential processes in the universe and in us. The images are there to take the viewer on a journey into the infinity of the mysterious. A tool that can be used to reach spiritual levels and to recognize the essence of our environment.
I believe that humanity has maneuvered itself into a situation where quick, superficial stimuli crowd out the fundamental and essential aspects of our existence. And I believe that many people now feel this deficit intuitively without being able to name the problem directly.
My art is part of a movement that tries to rediscover the core of existence and to make it directly tangible in a contemporary way. I believe that integrating this essence into our everyday life leads to well-being and happiness. Both individually and collectively. Viewing art is a form of meditation and can serve to focus our thoughts, gain insight, focus on the here and now, and bring beauty to our surroundings. Images are powerful tools and can help us connect with higher forces and energies. So they can support us on our spiritual journey.
My Discovery collection should show particularly balanced, harmonious compositions. There is an artful balance between chaos and order with vibrant colors and archetypal shapes.
