Forcing people to flee their homeland is a tragedy that should affect us all, but it is the children who suffer most. Torn out of their home, they are scared, do not understand what is happening and feel small and helpless. However, most people prefer to look the other way than to help and so these children are left alone.
This acrylic painting is a refugee story and shows all those children, how they lie down in the painting and sit crouched, how they are visibly suffering from the situation. The people around them turn their heads away, they just watch, but they don't want to help, don't want to see what is happening to these children. The people in the artwork choose to be observers instead of helpers.
This emotional and stirring painting was created in 2020.
I was born in Bosnia / Herzegovina in 1965 and spent my childhood and school time there. Vienna has been my new home for over 30 years. From 2006 I studied painting at the Kunstvolkshochschule and graduated in 2009.
Painting gives me the opportunity to express my feelings and my view of the world. In order to be able to process emotions and impressions in pictures, I experiment with methods and techniques without being stuck or restricting myself. I use oil and acrylic paints, watercolor, chalk and charcoal, which I also mix on a case-by-case basis. So I allow myself the changing choice of means or techniques and the opportunity to open new doors again and again - for myself and for my pictures.
