Karl Wolfgang Paschek

Positive, life-affirming and meditative.

About the artist

Karl Wolfgang Paschek was born in Klosterneuburg, Lower Austria, in 1954 and honed his artistic skills over many years, finding his own independent, detailed formal language. Numerous successful exhibitions testify to the high quality of his work. In 2007/2008, Karl W. Paschek received the contract to furnish the Lourdesgrotte church in Maria Gugging. For the sacred building located in the Vienna Woods, the artist created extensive stained glass and the installation “Cross of Peace” – a retractable peace cross. Karl W. Paschek is also a long-time member of the Klosterneuburg Artists' Association. Another sign of his success is that works of art by Karl W. Paschek were repeatedly auctioned off at the Kinsky and the Dorotheum.

Paschek himself divides his paintings into three thematic areas: The “images of the world, time and mood” are reminiscent of aerial photographs of large landscapes, satellite images of large stretches of coast, atmospheric vortices of foreign planets or distant star nebulae. The so-called “meditation pictures”, which are characterized by harmonious color gradients and contrasts, offer a space for the emotional worlds of the soul. They encourage reflection and allow the viewer to rest the eye and the mind and collect themselves. The “happy symbols” are a homage to life, to nature, to macro and microcosm, and are characterized by strong colors and lush flower and plant motifs.

Karl W. Paschek's consistently abstract paintings are often enriched with floral elements. The incredible power and vitality of nature is skillfully captured on canvas, transporting the art lover into a liberating, regenerating and mood-enhancing state. The detailed images are entire universes made up of tiny color areas, exciting transitions and contrasts. They look like living organisms that are made up of countless different cells and seem to develop and grow before the eyes of the viewer. The great wealth of shapes and colors makes it possible to rediscover the paintings again and again.

The artistic work of Karl W. Paschek is dedicated to the search for man's place within his social structure and the nature that surrounds him. Sometimes thoughtful, sometimes sparkling with energy and dynamism, this painterly search is always characterized by deep confidence, irrepressible creative power and great joy for life.
