Silvia Ehrenreich

My motto: movement is life and life is movement.

About the artist

Silvia Ehrenreich uses very different means and techniques in painting and in her drawings. The use of a wide variety of materials such as acrylic, oil, pastel, gouache, watercolor, collages, printing techniques, paper, canvas and the like clearly testifies to the artist's curiosity and love of experimentation. She does not stop at one material, but tries things out and surprises the viewer again and again with the successful results. The forms and content sometimes have abstract moments, but mostly something figurative. In her works, Silvia Ehrenreich deals with the environment, people, nature, the present and the past; Due to its certain melancholy and longing character, it repeatedly leads the viewer into dreamy and fairytale worlds.

The motif is always the movement – one of which is the dance, or rather: it is the dancers, they are the motif, the subject of the picture, with the dancer being the main actor in the pictures. Dance has been her theme for a long time. But their motive is also “motive”; it motivates her - she herself is a passionate dancer and loves to move - here she can let her emotions run free, says the artist. The quick pictures that she succeeds with right away, mostly ink drawings, but also acrylic pictures, such as dance pictures, especially her series: "swinglines", movement studies, but also nude drawings and studies, have a longer, intellectual lead. It is a process, an emotional process that touches your soul; requires emotion, music, empathy and focus. Lines and surfaces complement each other or appear as opponents and turn the picture into a tension structure. And then there are also some images that are put away and waiting to be brought out again to continue working on them. Another motif of her work includes the love, emotion and passion for water.

Mainly there are seascapes or the waves of the sea. Stays by the sea give her a feeling of freedom and lightheartedness. This vastness and apparent infinity - beyond the horizon - inspires her to bring these feelings to the canvas again and again. In accordance with her basic attitude, Silvia Ehrenreich decides not to convey anything negative in her artistic work and nevertheless to remain critical. It's about "movement", says Silvia Ehrenreich when asked about the intention of her pictures. By that she means not only the physical, but also the spiritual; this is the only way she explains her attitude towards life and the creation of her art. Like this she also wants to pass on her feelings to the viewer. As far as her subject areas are concerned, she has an extremely wide range of interests and always finds new inspiration. This is shown by her last works, here torn cotton bands / strips are integrated into the works or included in the motif. She calls these works “waste art”. With her recently created round-format pictures she wants to express even more energy.

About Silvia

Dance has always been a means of expression - dance is a ritual, is a way of life, is communication. Dance is an expression of all kinds of emotions - just as a painted picture also contains the state of mind of the artist - the dance is also interpreted differently by each dancer in his / her own way - felt and a story is expressed. Dance is more than movement - dance is or can contain a form of trance - dance is a healing element - dance does not need an accompanying musical form - dance is impulse - the pulse of every human being beats its own beat - dance is in each of us - Dance touches and moves. In my art I capture my feelings on certain topics in life. When I paint and/or draw, I experiment with passion," she says, "inspired by the sounds of music, memories, dreams, stays in nature, I live moments of losing time and space. Whether I paint people, animals, flowers, landscapes or still lifes, what interests me is not the exact representation of the subject in question, but rather the inner value, the characteristic essence or what is called the soul of things and to capture them to express.
